When my 140 approved, I bought my home thinking I will build Equity and own a home instead of paying rent. Now I am doubting if I did the right thing considering the slow down in Realty and uncertainty on GC. My spirits got dampened with the October visa bulletin. EB3 is once again back to world famous 2001 . Are there any 80000+ EB3-I petitions with a priority dates around 2001? Otherwise no logical reason in why this always go back to 2001? My friend and I went over the archives to find that over a period of 57 months, EB3 India crossed 2003 only twice - June and July 2007. So frustrating?

Honestly though, OP's proposed law would get much more congressional support than EB reform.
If first you gave amnesty, and then allowed ppl to sponsor their parents on a GC, the illegal immigrant lobby would be very very happy.

Let us differentiate ourselves. Legal immigrants include people who come here on family based PR petitions. We are Highly skilled legal Immigrants.
IMHO, WE SHOUD USE "WE ARE HIGHLY SKILLED LEGAL IMMIGRANTS" INSTEAD OF "LEGAL IMMIGRANTS". Going by what is happening in the hill and elsewhere, this distinction will work favorably for us.

I have similarly checked a site here in MA which most of the local indian community visits. The prices are little high and I'm negotiating. If sulekha is visited a lot please enquire about the prices and then you can forward to the media committee.
I'm planning to contribute to the ad myself if the local website agrees to my terms. (Still bargaining !)

That's not correct. Such frequent reentry after exit will certainly lead to suspicion by an Immigration office at PoE. In fact the intent of 10 year visitor visa is not 10 years of permanent residence. If there is no convincing reason for such frequent reentry you are mostly likely looking at serious interrogation or deportation at the airport. There is no substitute for a GC for your parents if you want them to be with you permanently in the US. Visitor visa has a specific purpose and intent, abusing it could put your folks serious trouble. The other issue with such long term stay on Visitor Visa is - medical insurance - unfortunately there is no good, reliable and comprehensive medical insurance that covers elderly visitors on short trip.
Health insurance is not an issue these days as there are several indian firms covering it for foreign travel

Well, I don't think I am at the end of line of 300,000 people. There must be lots and lots of people whose priority date is after April 2004 might have filed. This includes 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
So I think 3 years is intelligent guess. But who knows I am just trying to make myself happy and trying to stay positive.
Also remeber there is a big number of LC BACKLOG cases, all with PD prior to 2005, that will be cleared by end of next month and would get to apply AOS some time soon.

They will retrogress all categories for India/China to 2001, so everyone will have to wait. Eventually people will fedup and leave the country (this solves half of their problem). For others they will keep issueing RFE for the next 5/10 years and enforcing stricter followup on AC-21 so people wont be able to leave their jobs and get promoted.
So who will want to continue working at programmer in their mid50s. Imp question is will there be a job for such candidate...and so they will move back.

Your good fight on the retrogression issue kind of kept us going without giving up. In just a few days what some of you have done with www.immigrationvoice.org is amazing and it truly deserves a lot better than the faint response they have got so far from all of us in this legal black hole. Honestly, I do not care if we are not able to raise 100K dollars for the lobbying efforts for the next immigration bill on February. I don not care if this money is finally lost. It will be money well spent if we all realize that we have to do something instead of waiting years and years and years? Any money is worth the effort regarding our goals, even if our present intention does not succeed. Is worth it!!. Lets move on, hoping for the best? It is worth to try this next immigration bill. Any money spent on this is worth it? Can not you guys see it? More and more years on this black hole!! More years paying our lawyers for H1B renewal, more years for renewal of our driving licenses, more years for our wives to wait, more years for our employers exploiting us? This next immigration bill could be our last chance in many years to get our unfair and sad situation known and probably solved. We would at least raise enough concern about the absurd situation of the legal immigrants? It could be a new Quixote tale, I do not care? A good part of my next paycheck will go to immigrationvoice? Whatever? Keep America growing? America is not just them?. It is all of us? It has always been? It is what America is made of?

I have not tried it myself, but a couple members did and it worked. I also know about folks receiving EADs after filing lawsuits. There is still rule of the law in this country. Try follow my instructions and see the results.
I was at USCIS this morning, followed every thing you suggested. My IO officer was actually a desi guy.
1) They completely refused to look at the received date, I had my EAD (765) receipt, but the IO said he only cares about the receipt date. I even has the print out from USCIS.gov in which they have mentioned that they will honor the date on which applications were received in the mail room but he did not budge. His argument was " That update is in the over all scheme of things, but for EAD they have specific instruction to follow only the date they entered the data in the system"
2) I was not allowed to see a supervisor, the IO did talk to the supervisor but did not let me see her.

I have purchased 4 firearms during my nonimmigrant status, including a handgun. Nonimmigrants can generally not own firearms in the US. Though, there is an exception to the law if you possess a valid hunting license and have resided in the US for more than 90 days. I took a hunting class, which was a prerequisite for the hunting license and also had very good firearm safety information.
For long-guns, you will need some paperwork before you go to the gunshop (utility bills from at least last 90 days, hunting license, Driver's license, your I-94 number). The background check will probably be delayed a day or two while FBI checks your immigration status. Your gun seller will call you when they get the ok.
For handguns, there may be additional paperwork. I had to apply for handgun permits with the local sheriff's office. The person you first deal with will probably be unaware of the exception for individuals with hunting licenses. You will probably need to take a copy of the law (ICE has a pamphlet on firearm laws for nonimmigrants, take a copy with you) and talk to a supervisor. Once you get the permit you take the permit and your DL to the gun seller plus all the paperwork I listed for long gun purchase. Let me know if you have additional questions. Good luck.
I have lived in Nevada before. I think in that state and many other western states (where guns laws are more liberal) you have to have passport, I-94 and utility bills proving you have lived in NV for 6 months. That's it. You don't need hunting license to get a gun license.
Here is the biggest irony:
IN order to own a gun, FBI needs only 2 days to check your background.
IN order to get 485 approved, FBI takes months or years to do a background check.
I guess green-card is a more lethal weapon than a handgun.
