Should we run another targeted phone campaign to the Republican Senators (the 11 that supported previous CIR)? IV team, let us know
IV Team, a campaign has been let loose by numbersusa. It would be wise to for us to act too IMHO

this poll is a good idea to understand what most of the members expect from CORE....
....this is a grass-roots organization and any highly skilled legal immigrant should be able to donate $25
Great point praveenuppaluri. But let's face reality for a moment - as several senior members routinely point out, inspite of our organization having several thousand "highly paid" members, the "donor" base is very limited. As Zen says in a truly Zen manner "we are where we are"...and we have to figure out where to go from here. Unquestionably, I am really thankful to our highly dedicated Core team for sacrificing their personal time and making all of the efforts that have led to substantial progress over the last few years for the immigration community. However,, that with a new government in place, we now have a truly unique window of opportunity to make some progress and the question before us is how do we maximize our potential to take advantage of this? The real beauty of my proposal is that we could leverage the enormous dedication of the core team and multiply it several fold, if we could build a strong donor base that provides us the funding required to engage effective lobbyists. Needless to say the more the funding, the stronger can be our lobbying.
but I also understand that most of these lobbying efforts are done in the back ground and its not good idea to share anything in these times. who knows, may be there is an anti-immigrant lurking around (ofcourse paying $$ to become Donor, become senior member whatever) to get inside information.
.....transparancy is good as long as it doesn't hurt the cause.
It is definitely not a good idea to broadcast confidential information on strategies/plans. However, what you are referring to is the merchanics of the process of sharing updates- there are several ways in which we could implement the update process so that information is only shared to a predefined "pool" and that "donors" are first vetted before being brought into the "pool", so to speak. The way IV has currently implemented this process, of course, is through the local chapters. However, their current process is subject to lack of consistency (depending very heavily on the availability of the local chapter coordinators) and more importantly, does not take advantage of the tool that really enables us to all come together i.e. the internet. It is a paradox that an organization founded on the net and is still subjecting itself to the constraints of "physical communication" via the local chapters. I thought they were taking a step in right direction with the creation of the "Donor Forum", however, for some reason, we still seem stuck in the previous mode of operation. We can find a middle ground here that would not compromise confidentiality or our goals - one alternative (certainly not the only one I am sure) is quite simply, email updates compiled by one person (for consistency and uniform direction) that go out a distribution group, where the "donors" on the distribution list, have been vetted by the local chapter coordinators. I know this takes work, but if the Core is looking for a person to pull together a Conference Call to compile this update and send it out, I would be glad to volunteer my services.
Still I've some open issues. If you look at the poll, there isnt a single person who voted NO. We should expect to see a healthy mix of Yes,No and Dont Care. But the way the poll has been put and partly the wording, partly the current IV environment, people are sceptical of putting their real thoughts publicly. This excercise is futile if you have minimal 'NO's --- hope you are getting my point here. The only thing you might end up with is x number of YES and hope to translate the YES into more dollar value for IV and there will be some YES who are already contributing monetarily.
You are correct dilbert_cal - not a single person has explicity voted "No". In reality though, everyone who has viewed this thread (1563 views when I last checked - even if you assume each person has checked this thread at least 10 times, that's about 156 individuals out of whom only about 35 have voted so far!) and not bothered to vote is essentially voting "No"! However, again as you point out, I am not really looking for the "No"s since these people have clearly decided they don't want to part with their money at this stage (not ascribing any reasons or motives here - just stating the facts). Instead, my focus is on coalescing a group around those who voted "Yes" since they, like me, agree that they would contribute more if they received more regular updates of what is going on. Our organization just needs a little more "organization" (pun, intended :p) to make it more effective! Again, just reality but that is also the usual natural evolution of most organizations that start out as pure grassroots organizations.
I really do believe there are substantial number of folks out there who can be engaged more effectively in this process and I invite the Core Leadership team to put more thought in figuring out how to achieve this - I hope you take my suggestion constructively!
Cheers

With the Current Wave of Applications we never know how long its going to take to get an approval
We have to advocate for Law changes and make the Senate and Congress to address this issue, If not it may take longer than you think

RedCard,
Have you ever checked your balance? . Please go through insurance documents you would discover the truth. let me know after checking your balance how much you have in account/how much you paid.
Thx,
21stIcon
I am not sure what you mean by this... I have a schedule which lays out the exact amount which is payable in case you terminate the policy before the end of the level term period... which is about $1K in the first five years and hardly anything in the initial years but increases at the end of the term period..that apart you can either pay lump sum premium annually or you can pay monthly?.
Let me know if this helps? or be more specific so that I can check..

These are the talking points that AILA is suggesting for calls made to the Senators :
http://capwiz.com/aila2/callalert/index.tt?alertid=8554496&type=CO
(please call between 9am & 5pm)
Ask For: Immigration Staffer
Talking Points:
1) Tell your Senator to support the Judiciary Committee's comprehensive immigration reform bill!
2) Tell them that we need a workable solution and path to eventual permanent status for the 12 million undocumented!
3) Tell them that we need a new temporary worker program that offers labor protections and a path to permanent status!
4) Tell them that the family and employment backlog provisions in the Chairman's Mark are good and should remain in the bill!
5) Tell them that full access to the Circuit Courts of Appeal must be preserved!
I hope knnmbd realizes here that AILA has no mention of legal immigrants in the call to Senators.....your thoughts knnmbd?

good work nycgal369.
can you add the words "highly skilled" infront of "immigrants" (see in red below)?

in response to your message, I have posted my original draft below, with a couple of changes based on my opinion - i.e. I believe in asking for only one thing at a time, and that is the skil bill, which will automatically provide for increased visa numbers. But each person can modify their version based on what they think.
If you think IV members should all be asking for the same thing then go ahead and modify this version.

Dear xxx,
I belong to an organization called Immigration Voice, a small group (and to my knowledge the only one of its kind) that is attempting to help legal tax-paying highly skilled immigration applicants who have been in waiting in limbo for many years.
We are all highly skilled immigration applicants who are stuck in limbo, some for more than 8 years, despite being fully legal, tax paying and highly skilled.
Since the number of highly skilled legal immigrants is so small (less than a million) compared to the number of illegal immigrants (12 million) it is very difficult to get our voices heard about the problems caused by waiting in a seemingly endless queue. The issues, unlike those of illegals, are largely non-controversial, some as simple as asking USCIS to reduce our waiting time from 8+ years to a year.
Since we are all highly skilled in areas where there is a shortage of US available labor and provide a disproportionately large benefit to the US economy, we believe that approving our already filed applications on an expedited basis could be helpful to all of us.
Currently, a bill that is under consideration by Congress called the SKIL bill will solve almost all of these non-controversial issues.
I and my fellow members would much appreciate it if you could run a story on us, and/or direct us to a source that helps publicize our organization.

Skilled, Legal Immigrants Tangled in Illegal Immigration Mess
The debate over what to do about the millions of illegal immigrants in this country has occupied much of the public mind share over the past year, including press coverage, demonstrations, and debate and legislation at all levels of government. Drowned out by all the noise over illegal immigration is an issue of critical importance to American industry and tens of thousands of hopeful would-be citizens: the legal immigration system for skilled workers is badly broken and in need of an overhaul.
Of the on-average 850,000 green cards doled out annually over the past decade, approximately 16% (140,000 / yr), are allocated to so-called ?skilled workers? - nurses, engineers, medical researchers, and a variety of other professionals. They have at least a bachelor?s degree, typically in a technical discipline, and many have master?s degrees or doctorates and significant experience in their fields. These workers pay taxes and health insurance, are educated and law-abiding, and they contribute to their communities. Most importantly, they help drive economic growth by supplying critical skills to US industry in an increasingly competitive global market.
Contrary to what some alarmists will have you believe, these workers are not stealing American jobs. They are brought to the US by American-owned companies who can?t find sufficiently skilled US workers. The US Department of Labor (USDOL) requires the employer to prove that there are no suitably qualified US workers available before allowing the foreign worker to be hired. Skilled green card applicants are also not ?cheap labor?. The employer is required by law to pay at least as much as they would pay a comparably qualified US worker. This wage is established by survey and audited by USDOL. Anti-immigration rhetoric simply does not hold up to scrutiny when compared with realities of the legal immigration process.
The green card process for skilled workers has traditionally taken 18-24 months. However, many current applicants are facing waits of 5 years or more due to bureaucratic bottlenecks at the Department of Labor, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and even the FBI. Recent attempts to fix the legal green card process have become mired in politics over what to do about illegal immigrants. For example, a number of measures that would have helped US corporations sponsor legal green card applicants were included in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA) of 2006. However, after passing in the Senate last year, this bill ground to a halt in the House because it provided a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, a measure strongly opposed by many US Representatives.
Legal green card applicants are hopeful that Comprehensive Immigration Reform will be re-visited in 2007 and get a much warmer reception now that the US House of Representatives is controlled by the Democrats. Measures in the bill introduced last year would help to restore the green card process back to traditional 18-24 month wait times, allowing immigrants to get on with their lives and integrate fully with the US workforce in a timely fashion. Highly skilled, legal workers are good for the economy, good for our communities, and good for American industry in an increasingly competitive global economy. The Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill deserves the support of the American people in 2007.

You are suggesting how to avoid it rather then try to acknowledge that there is a problem in the wording of AP. By problem, I meant the whole dynamics has changes over the years, so, its time they change to reflect today's reality.
There may not be everyone who would continue to be on H1 while their AOS is pending.
In light of the AC21 provision, this is pretty common - people change jobs using EAD and are then on AOS. Looks like the wording on AP was ignored when AC21 was being made into law. This is now biting some of the travelers.
Could the AP wording be changed using an administrative fix by USCIS/DOS rather than a legislative update?

I don't have a place to stay, though. I would appreciate if someone can sponsor a 3 night hotel stay for me in Washington DC.

Here is what I dont understand..
245(i) cases are supposed to be hindering forward movement of EB3 cases because of Apr 2001 deadline. I would guess that majority of those cases are from Mexico (I am sure there are some from India as well). Now if that is true, then how come Mexico dates have moved to the month of May 2001 while India EB3 is stuck in April 2001 for the last so many months?
Just wondering..
This question has been bugging the HECK out of me as well. I mean the only way this makes sense is if 245(i) + EB3 for India >> 245(i) for Mexico. Now from all that i have read/heard/seen, it seems like 245(i) is the major hurdle. Then how is it that EB3 India is stuck and everyone else is moving? The above equation must mean that there is a SIGNIFICANT number of 245(i) cases from India as well. Any thoughts anyone?

My advice to most people who do not perfectly fit into eb2 is to do the eb3 petition first (which is guaranteed to be approved). Get your place in line for the greencard.
Good suggestion.
If it is taking too long then you can try an eb2 later; if it gets approved then you will get the old priority date. If it doesn't; well you can say you tried but you didn't lost your place in line for the greencard because you still have the old eb3 in place.
As if the porting rules are going to stay the same. There are many things legit eb2 people are doing that will make this bogus porting impossible.
However, if your cases is not clear for eb2 and you try this first and it gets denied then you will lose valuable time in line for the greencard because you have to start from the beginning.
Since, last august DOL has become weird with even approving eb3 labors. Generally, attornies will put language in the eta 9089 that they will accept three years of experience for each year of bachelors degree missing (this is in line with education evaluators and uscis).
These days USCIS is trying to stick to the rules, so all people who are trying to beat the system by using wrong credentials are getting stuck. Lawyers have nothing to lose, they will make more money from you.....one from your eb3 application and two from your high risk eb2 application which will eventually be rejected.
However, this isn't the same criteria DOL uses. They will state that if a person doesn't have a degree then you are willing to accept 12 years of experience which is excessive and they deny the labor (before they were giving hard time to eb2 but not it is eb3 that they are after). So now we have an issue that DOL criteria is different then uscis critera. You use dol criteria, labor gets approved but 140 gets denied. Use uscis criteria and labor gets denied.
Now, everyone has to adjust and file eb3 labors as skilled workers and only require two years of experience (it's getting more and more messy)
I did not know unskilled workers can file for greencards in EB3. I think things are getting better and USCIS is now trying to stick to the rules.

Now that the initial send flowers campaign was a success, can we think of a second round of flower campaign? This time to Ms. Rice.
If this is a good idea, let us collect money (from as low as $1 to as much as you want to contribute) and send flowers from a common point? May be we all can pay IV specifically for this purpose. IV can then order flowers from a vendor and negotiate a better price.
The advantage of this approach is that even people who would not want to spend the $30 bucks can contribute what ever they are comfortable with. Even $1 would help. I am confident that we can raise atleast $10,000 for this effort. $10,000 would translate to 10,000/30 = 350 flowers. We could target July 25th (15 days from now) as the last day of contribution.
Cheers,

I always loved this board for what it does - especially the Gurus who always spend their precious time giving input to member's queries. Well... this is not query. I just want to vent my frustration, helplessness to fellow friends in this board. In spite of graduating from a reputed univ with a Masters and very good GPA and also having 7 years of professional experience, I am bound to be a slave to my current Employer without any promotions, career growth or anything remote to that for next (God knows how many Decades) several years. ppl who are junior to me in every aspect are growing left and right and are also getting brighter opportunities. I dont care if you guys think I am jealous of them.... But does God really exist ? sorry for wasting your time with this depressing note. I guess there is a limit to how unlucky I can be !! call me a cry baby but I am one real unlucky individual !
