This is definitely scary. I think, we need to kick start our campaign again in full throttle. Last time, we thought, things were changing and we kind of stopped our campaign. There was a Ombudsman link where they suggested to contact them if 485 is wrongfully denied. Did someone contact them?

My guess is that it will move a bit more faster than last year. Note that Apr 22 was the hump day (been dealing that that day right through labor certification phase), after that, the movement was steady. The Nov1 showing up twice is due to exhaustion of the numbers. I am expecting a steady march going forward.
How will it march steadily when we have less than 3000 numbers for the year?
I am sure we have many pplicants with PD in 2002 and 2003. I would be surprised if PD moves beyond April 2002 in FY 2009.

CIR is difficult due to political landscape. piecemeal approach has the

I agree with nitinboston, Forget the haters.
We have to do something.If things work much better than waiting for GC just head over there. There are tremendous oppurinities available. US GC is not the perfect thing to get in life. People like Dhuribhai Ambani, Tata etc... did not work for their American GC. Keep your eyes open and keep on researching with different options.
Regarding IT, I don't think IT guys can only work on IT. you can study something new, change your field and be someone everybody would respect. Some of them in IV have stuidied in IITs, have double master degrees from US and waiting in a que. Start a business, have some goals rather than predicting about visa bulletin.
Majority of you are from India. In India you can hire engineers at a very low salary. I have employees working for me in India for Rs3.5K a month(non-tech) and Graduate enginers working for a salary of 5K/ month. If some of us can outsource jobs in India we would be millionaires within few years.
We are highly skilled immigrants, Can't we make a group and do conusltancy. The consultancy charges for a hour is $570/- in intoto.com where the actual engineer gets $120/- per hour.

A filibuster by Republicans is in order if President Bush presses forward in the new Congress with legislation to establish a guest-worker program with a path to citizenship, says Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.
Kyl, however, speaking yesterday to nationally syndicated radio host Laura Ingraham, said he was uncertain whether or not Republicans would have the 40 votes necessary to block the legislation.
"I would certainly hope that the majority of Republicans in the Senate would not be complicit in passing legislation that is not wise, that for example, would put everybody on a path to citizenship and say that temporary workers get to get U.S. citizenship, and so on," Kyl said, according to HotAir.com
In January, Democrats will have a 51-49 majority over Republicans in the Senate. A supermajority of 61 votes would be needed to prevent a filibuster.
"I would certainly hope that we would have the 40 votes to be able to stop [the legislation], but, I don't know, we're going to have to wait and see; it'll be very close," said Kyl, who won re-election to another six-year term last week.
Arguing for the guest-worker program, the Bush administration has insisted it's not practical to deport the millions of foreigners who are in the country illegally.
"The cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview last year.
"One of the reasons I think that we've been focusing on the idea of a temporary worker program as part of a larger strategy for border security is because it would be a way to siphon off people who really want to do nothing more than work here, put them into a regulated program ? we would know who they are ? we would then be able to send them back at the end of a period of three years or six years," he told Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel program "Hannity & Colmes."
"They would have made some money, they could take it back home, and then we could focus our other resources on the people that don't want to do it the right way, and we could get those people sent out."
Last May, just 36 senators ? three of them Democrats ? voted against a bill that included a guest-worker program. The Senate was unable to work out a comprise before the Nov. 7 midterm elections with the House, which passed legislation rebuffing Bush's desire for foreign workers to gain legal employment.

Mike Pence, R-Ind., announced a compromise plan called the "No Amnesty Reform Act," which would require all illegal aliens to leave the United States and apply at "Ellis Island Centers," operated by private companies in Mexico under a license from the U. S. government. They would then obtain a "Good Neighbor Safe Visa" qualifying them to re-enter the U.S. as "guest workers."

Some have said that EB is based solely on "merits", and that I am inventing my own intent (of diversity). No I am not, look it up. The per-country quota system is mentioned in the statues even before family or EB is discussed. Family based immigration have the per country quota too (why should an Indian Family suffer for X years, while families of other countries are able to unite sooner), but I dont see that we asked to remove the the quota completely. We only asked for removal in EB (but that is deviating from the topic).
I am not anti-immigrant, just because I argue against some provisions does not make me anti-immigrant (well the same charge will be leveled against us by CIR folks because we dont take/support their approach), and no I dont yet have my GC. I may be whatever, but I will not burn the bridge after crossing it (though I have been known to burn the bridge while I am still on it).
Yes, laws can (and shall) be changed, but can't we discuss the good and bad of what we are changing? I have seen many a legislation that have good intent at heart, but many times ends up without checks and balances (and eventually misused).

Not sure if the social security taxes are for immigration benefits. Also, the taxes we pay are for several other services that we get in the US. Remember, even as non-citizens, we get millions of benefits such 911, clean roads, and the list will go on. Why do you think we want to immigrate?

I have now read it at so many places, if I didn't know anything about H1-B visas, I would probably have believed it by now. So we really should make a point to mention that we pay taxes and social security.
